OMTL Day 1: Introduction
Your time on this earth is limited.
Thinking about death can be depressing. Especially if you've recently lost someone you love. If that's you, I don't mean to add to your pain.
But the Bible does encourage us to face our mortality. David prays, "Let me know how fleeting my life is." Isaiah prophesies, "All people are like grass...the grass withers and the flowers fall." Jesus tells stories about people reaching the end of life and realizing too late that they were living for the wrong things.
Today's Scripture says that when we "number our days," we "gain a heart of wisdom"--that is, we get smart. We get clarity about what really matters and how we should use our time.
Numbering our days is not about focusing on death. It's about focusing on life. The goal is not to get depressed. It's to get motivated. Life is an amazing, wonderful, precious gift, given to you by the only One who can give it. What will you do with it? How will you use it?
We're starting a 30-Day period of asking ourselves each day, "What would I do if I had One Month to Live?" Today as you ask yourself that question, write down the first five answers that pop into your mind. And then choose one of those to start working on right away.
